It’s no secret that the 6.0L Powerstroke had a lot of issues, but arguably it’s biggest flaw is the EGR system, which led to a host of issues including blown head gaskets, clogged oil coolers and outright EGR failure. The EGR valve eventually becomes clogged by exhaust soot, and if not replaced, will stop functioning entirely, leading to exhaust gas being introduced to the intake manifold. This leads to severe drivability issues, poor fuel economy, and low power. Replacing your EGR valve won’t fix everything, but it’s certainly a step in the right direction!
